Work that body, stimulate the mind
I was walking back along the embankment last week, fresh from a session with my personal trainer, a Columbian ‘smack down’ wrestler named Jorge. I always feel invigorated and ‘alive’ after my workout, even if it is the last thing I want to do before we start. My head was buzzing with really great thoughts popping up, one after the other - a chapter for my next book, a business winning idea for one of my clients, a new service I could offer and much more. I then realised that when I finish working out I invariably have such bursts of mental energy. I am sure there is a definite link between working out the body and stimulating the mind. What do you think? Let me know at enquiries@chriskaday.co.uk If these 60 year old bones can manage it then I am sure you could get the fitness habit too or maybe this is already an established part of your weekly routine. If my experience is anything to go by your business is sure to benefit too.

In my experience there is a clear link between exercise and feeling mentally sharp. If I don’t have my regular runs I definitely feel less on top of things, less able to think clearly and with less mental momentum. Perhaps if more people exercised properly more often we could achieve even greater things.

I must agree a healty body contains a healty mind. From experience I can tell that during my weekly runs I approach (mostly technical) problems that appear in my bussiness (www.valkenaers.be) or life in a different way. Maybe it’s because when you’re running, you’re on your own and you’re not influenced by other factors. So you can divide your problem in smaller pieces and give each piece a simple solution or approach the problem in a very different way.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind ( and body) that there is a link between working out the body and stimulating the mind. The results and training which come from the process of placing the body through a regular workout routine not only develops fitness and alertness but cleanses the body of the toxins which can build up from a sedentary lifestyle. I workout 6 days a week, usually early morning, and have a combination of swims and runs in the summer and add weight training in the winter. Workouts are only one hour a day but they are an incredible investment towards the health and longevity of my body. I am always surprised that people spend more time and money on their cars then on their bodies. A car you can always replace but your own body is a one time gift.
The benefits of exercise are huge — fitness gets you eating properly which in turn makes you sleep properly. This in turn makes you take care and present yourself with more confidence and youthfulness. You stand straighter and have much more enthusiasm because of it. People become attracted to your energy. Its a win/ win situation. The fact that it can reduce your stress load is only a tip of the iceberg. It can ignite an entire lifestyle change which makes life illuminating even on the most grey winter days in London.

An excellent response Karl. In my experience if you are sluggish your business is sluggish so get on the fitness bug everyone and it will positively impact your bottom as well as your bottom line

The benefits of exercise are both physiological and psychological. People who do not exercise often enough breathe shallowly therefore take in less oxygen into the body. This means that the body uses the limited oxygen supply for just the vital organs but nothing more. By exercising, you are increasing your body’s ability to process oxygen mainly. This additional oxygen processing capability can be used by the brain making it more engaged to think clearly and efficiently.
Furthermore, endorphins are released into the body stimulating good mood and alleviating natural stresses. My advice would simply be to exercise for 45 minutes 3 times a week as a minimum and you will reap the rewards.
I am surprised that people spend ludicrous sums of money on their cars and homes than investing in their health, fitness and mind. Exercise the body with aerobic routines and exercise the mind with educational reading every day.
