The benefits of exercise are both physiological and psychological. People who do not exercise often enough breathe shallowly therefore take in less oxygen into the body. This means that the body uses the limited oxygen supply for just the vital organs but nothing more. By exercising, you are increasing your body's ability to process oxygen mainly. This additional oxygen processing capability can be used by the brain making it more engaged to think clearly and efficiently.

Furthermore, endorphins are released into the body stimulating good mood and alleviating natural stresses. My advice would simply be to exercise for 45 minutes 3 times a week as a minimum and you will reap the rewards.

I am surprised that people spend ludicrous sums of money on their cars and homes than investing in their health, fitness and mind. Exercise the body with aerobic routines and exercise the mind with educational reading every day.

"For me, trust is an essential element of doing business."

I just wanted to elaborate on this comment. Stephen M. R. Covey (The son of Stephen R Covey, venerable author of 'The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People') says trust can either be a tax or a dividend.

The following two statements show how this is the case.

"When trust is low, speed goes down and cost goes up" - this is a tax.

"When trust is high, speed goes up and cost goes down" - this is a dividend.

When I first heard this from Stephen M R Covey, this made perfect sense. The only question left to ask is, "do you want a tax or a dividend for your business?"

I believe that instrinsic job satisfaction is a key motivator in the information age. Having people that have a totally instrumental orientation to work in that they are simply motivated by money is a paradigm that belongs to the industrial age.

People have complex holistic requirements and deserve for all of those requirements to be met in the workplace. I would always encourage anyone with a responsibility to motivate others like business owners and managers to consider how all the needs of the employees are being met.

It is my belief that having a fun and relaxed working environment where you can truly be yourself is of huge importance. The additional motivation that results and an environment that is conducive to ideas being generated is a massive and underused benefit in most organisations. What's worse is this a resource that can give a business leverage and it is free! Bring back pool, table football and social events that really help people to be themselves. When people feel as though they can be themselves, ideas and magic can happen! Ignore cultural and social issues in your organisation at your peril!

I believe it is absolutely the mindset that is the defining factor in whether a person will be ultimately successful. I think of it like this, if I could take all of Richard Branson's money, resources and credibility from him, so he would essentially be in the same position as the average man on the street, would he be able to launch another successful multi-million pound business? I'm not a betting man (well, not at least in the sense of going to Ladbrokes) but my money is on him creating yet another multi-million pound business. Why? It sounds ridiculous but I believe it is because he has the mindset and attitude to make it happen again. He simply needs to replicate the experience and actions that he knows has provided him with success in the past. I believe a multi-millionaire entrepreneur could be totally robbed and build another large business from scratch.

In my view, if you don't truely love your customers, you can't possibly succeed in business.

There are so many more ways to attract and retain customers than merely focusing on having the lowest price. Attention to detail, courtesy, thoughfulness and warmth. These things not only help customers love you, but also makes each day a more rewarding experience and life generally richer.

Absolutely right Iain. I think the majority of those in the service setor don't actually care about people so it does not come naturally. Amazing but true!

Courtesy takes so little effort but is worringly rare. Do they teach it in schools or do parents demonstrate it to their children these days. I sound grumpy too!

This comment is so relevant to today's business as most if not all companies work with email, and as so many CRM departments take a lot of incoming email and calls, it can be very difficult to process all of them on the same day. So it must be managed so your email customer is not let down as you have taken to many incoming calls that day so allowing your emails to build up. What does work however is that as one person takes calls another can respond to emails, swap their roles often then so taking away complacency of the role they are in and allowing them to make mistakes by being bored of their repetutive job as "change is as good as a rest", as they say.
