Is your company truly great?

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

As Andy Murray said yesterday on losing to Rafael Nadal, “It’s not like I played badly. He played great, and that was the difference.”

It reminded me of what it takes to win the business game too, where you are up against equally stiff competition. Like Andy, the vast majority of companies don’t play badly but they are not great.

To achieve greatness requires something more than merely running a day to day business. There has to be the drive, determination and passion to do something more even though there appears to be not enough hours in a working day. It is about doing what is necessary and then some.

Are you going through the motions in your business or giving that bit extra which will make it one of the few really great businesses? Like Nadal, are you making those few but decisive truly remarkable shots which awed the Wimbledon crowd yesterday? Something to reflect and maybe act on before the working week starts again on Monday!
